ABOUT THE FILM
Considering Allen Ginsberg's concept “First Thought, Best Thought" – Kohn set out to write, direct, and shoot a movie derived using automatic writing - first drafts of dialogues and scenarios - and intentionally disregarding screenplay-writing and strict narrative conventions and applying a sensibility derived from two decades as a documentary filmmaker.
The result is Colorblind Color Corrector, a visual punk poem in the form of a feature film. The automatic writing was transformed into the script which the actors must perform word-for-word, and shot in a way inspired by Psychosymbiotaxiplasm, Run Lola Run, and Slacker.
The story follows characters searching for a person called Matt, the colorblind color corrector who might or might not be the filmmaker’s alter ego. A Rent-A-Cop, an athlete, a cancer doctor, and a revolutionary arrive at Matt’s apartment and engage in confrontational dialogues while waiting for a message from Mat or Matt himself. But is Matt around at all? Or is he out chasing the impossible goal of caring about every conflict on Earth. Does he have the capacity to show that he cares about anyone at this moment?
From an angry kvetch through a secular congregation singing an awkward American hymn, to street scenes of political protests and intimate two-handers, the “plot” unravels with whimsical logic, a dream or an epic in verse. The atmosphere creates an absurdist science fiction satire filled with existential dread in the face of overwhelmingly confusing bureaucracy and stiff social conventions. The goal is to paint a surreal emotional landscape, featuring themes of changing identity and responsibility to the current moment.
The film features a diverse cast of New York- and Vermont-based actors who hail from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Argentina, Slovakia and more, using an array of performing styles.

Our 5.1 and Stereo mixes of sound effects by sound artists Mike Clemow and Storm Martinez added to an amazing scores by Ljova, Jacquelline Kerrod, Bghdad Battery, Stan Harrison’s Twenty Seconds of Something, Kyle Motl & Asher Tobin Chodos, Ellen Santaniello and James Newton.
SEEING THE WORLD DIFFERENTLY
The film is shot in anamorphic 1.5, with a unique Nikon taking lens, a combination designed to emulate film texture from the 1970s. Combined with the Red Komodo’s global shutter, raw images were transformed by color corrector Marc Weilage into various 35 mm film stocks and occasional colorblindness. The film was shot in Red Raw 6K and finished in 4K.
